Americana Blues Artist Jackie Greene
American singer and songwriter, Jackie Greene, was born in Salinas, California and at an early age he developed an interest in music. He started with the piano and at the age of 14 he then began to play the guitar. In no time he began to play with local bar bands. With age he began to compose his own songs, and recorded them in his little rickety garage made studio, where he burned his own CD’s and then sold them anywhere that would buy them. With the money Greene made from his CD’s he was able to record and then release his first album, Rusty Nails, all on his own.
After Jackie Greene graduated from Oakridge high school he then moved to Sacramento and began to perform on a regular basis. While playing he was noticed by Mary DeAnda, an owner of a local label, and in 2001 signed him as the labels very first artist. In 2002 with this label he then released his second album called Gone Wanderin’ and it won the California Music Awards under the category of Blues/Roots album. In 2004 he released a third album called Sweet Somewhere Bound, and with this album he started getting radio time especially his single “Honey I Been Thinking about You”.
Since then Greene has toured nationwide with B.B. King, Phil Lesh, Huey Lewis, and many more. In early 2005, he signed a major record label with Verve Forecast. In 2007 he joined Phil Lesh and Friends. On top of everything else he was doing he also pursued solo efforts and released Giving up the Ghost on 429 Records in 2008 and made his second appearance on the Late Night show with Conan O’Brien. One of his singles was even featured on episodes of NBC series “Life”. In 2009 Greene played many shows with his good friends from Gov’t Mule and during these shows he got to play and sing through a full set of Rolling Stones Songs with the band.
